Infection Control Syllabus

 

Course Overview

 

To raise awareness in infection control and prevention by providing infection control training that is relevant to a community care setting and is comprehensive in current infection control principles and practices.

 

Session questions to be answered

 

  • What are the infection prevention and control priorities for the … (insert name of care facility)……………………and does the care facility resilience plan reflect the necessary preparations for the prevention and control of those priorities.

  • What are the National Infection prevention and control priorities and how are the relevant infection prevention and control priorities being implemented locally, audited, monitored, followed up, actions completed and signed off.

  • How is the ……… (Insert name of care facility)…………. assured of infection prevention and control for patients and staff?

 

Learning Outcomes

 

  • Update on infection prevention and control for safe patient care and staff safety in accordance with the Health Act, 2008.

  • Review significance; demonstrate an understanding and importance of infection prevention as a means of managing infection risks in community health care settings specifically MRSA, Clostridium dificcile (C.diff), TB and other tailor made training topics as requested.

  • Understand the importance of preparation for the prevention and control of diarrhoea, vomiting and norovirus illnesses.

  • Appreciate and explain the importance and significance of hand decontamination in reducing infection risks in health care settings

  • Understand and have an increased awareness of infection control and prevention in community health care settings

  • Appreciate the prevention of transmission of micro-organisms in relation to the chain of infection

 

Course Schedule

 

  • Preventing Healthcare-associated infection (HCAI) in the community, prevention of transmission of micro-organisms in relation to breaking the chain of infection 

  • Influenza prevention 

  • MRSA prevention

  • C.diff prevention 

  • Norovirus and prevention of diarrhoea outbreaks 

  • Infection control policy awareness, i.e. Awareness to Waste & Sharps management 

  • Raising awareness to the health Act (self asses where you are in       your work place)

  • Raising awareness to TB

  • Implementing five stages for hand hygiene and the Essential steps to safe clean care programme
